Setting Intentions

At the beginning of most yoga classes, you are told to "set your intention", but when I started teaching, I didn't even know what that meant as it came out of MY own mouth!

It wasn't until I started looking into what this really meant, that I found the multiple layers of intentions.

I would say that intention setting is a mix of mantra's, resolutions and dreaming.

No one said it better than my Instagram girl crush Miki Ash..

An intention is the starting point of every dream.
They are the fuel to bringing your goals and visions into reality.
Identifying your intentions will help create more clarity in your life, provide insight into your purpose, and help you to stay focused, even in the midst of chaos.

A lot of people set new intentions with the full moon or they make a list at the beginning of each month of goals they want to accomplish.

Will and I have done this One Year, Three Year, Five Year plan every New Years Day for the past 4-5 years. This idea came about from our good friends, Gerry and Nicole. You make a list of the things you want to accomplish in the next couple of years and as one year comes to a close you see what, if anything, you have accomplished. I look forward to this soo much each year. #goalsetting

That's large scale intention setting though, and it can be much more simple than that!

As soon as you open your eyes in the morning you can set the intention of having a positive and stress free day. Maybe you clear that time in the morning, before uttering a single word, to being open. Open to receive, open to listen, open to breathe or just simply to be present.

The cool thing about intentions is that they can change moment to moment. They can be for you or for someone else. They can be for an idea or for a feeling.

Here are some examples of intentions and maybe these resonate with you:

  • I intend to respond first, and then react.

  • I intend to lead by example.

  • I intend to be open to success, abundance and blessings.

  • I intend to take every situation and find the positive.

  • I intend to forgive others, and myself.

  • I intend to love unconditionally.

  • I intend to do something to make someone smile every day.

If you want to set your own intention, make sure you can apply the surrounding goals of: positivity, letting it evolve as you evolve and let your intention be true to you!

I made a December intention list and shared it with you guys on Instagram!

What are some of your intentions for this month? I'd love to see!
